Projects - The Noisybox TODO List:
The following are just brief descriptions of projects
that I have either started or intend to start. It is basically
just a scratchpad place for me to jot down some ideas that
I'm interested in.
Don't expect much detail here...in fact, this list is mainly
for my own use. The ordering is completely irrelevant.
-
VOIP PBX -
VOIP semi open PBX (probably Asterisk), in the spirit of the
old hacked corporate PBX systems and conference bridges
of the 80s and early 90s. This could be a lot of fun, and the audio
could be archived. There could be puzzles interspersed for good measure.
-
Pic composite video -
Composite video generation on the pic, fed into the green screen and/or
apple // monitor. Timers included to power screen on/off at (ir)regular
intervals. Pattern generation? Text generation?
-
TelPhone line rec interface -
I need a high quality interface for getting audio from and sending audio
to my phone lines. I'm thinking box, jacks, a few buttons, a few LEDs.
Think computer interface here...
-
TI85 noises -
Check out Zshell and see what it takes (adaptor on the port, for sure)
to make some noises come out of the TI85. It's not like I use math
any more it seems, so why let the Z80 beaut go to waste? Could
possibly emulate with MESS (it does TI85 I think) to help with debugging.
-
Apple II sequencer -
Put the Apple II back in service as a bleep noise generator,
sequencer, with possible joystick control. Try to find
a copy of TIMELORD, which may be a good start...
-
LED sign -
Finish webcam and web interface to push messages.
-
PicMeme port -
Port the crawling engine to linux (probably in perl) and
add uploader for a MySQL back end.I have a top-secret
wxWindows port of PicMeme started, most functionality complete.
I should get this finished and make a release already, since I hardly
seem to use Windows anymore.
-
Screen printing EL -
the ability to screen print electroluminescent lights opens
up a lot of crazy possibilities
-
Atari 2600 multicart -
it shouldn't be too unreasonable to build an all-in-1 cart
for the Atari 2600 using a PIC and some flash memory.
-
Block image maker -
Something to automatically arrange blocks (wood) into an image.
Controlled by a PC, probably requires some human interaction.
Stained/painted blocks? Color depth/levels?
-
Patch sequencer -
Analog sequencer/synth with patch (banana?) cables for "programming".
Wave shaping and other effects? Decade counter for sequence,
plugs to trigger waveforms. How many waveforms? 24 may be
a good choice?
-
digital delay/fx -
it would be neeto to build a digital audio delay. could be
done cheaply with simple uC and some serial memory? fast enough?
-
MAME cabinet -
let's face it...who doesn't want a MAME
cabinet?
-
binary clock in analog -
a wall clock with binary display, but implemented in analog?
with date...
-
Tape loops -
tape loops can be fun and educational. perhaps fun.
-
Ribbon controller -
ala the synthstick. Just want to try it and hear it. Perhaps
the same kind of thing can be done with a simple resistor network
and a microcontroller sinking points to ground...hmmm...programmable
simple cheap o synth?
-
Video/audio tapes -
I'm convinced that some interesting things can come by attempting
to store video on an audio tape (ala Fisher Price) and maybe vice
versa. Discuss.
-
Micro synth -
Small, simple microcontroller based audio synth. Midi? Dunno. But
sequencing can be very fun...
-
Drum machine -
Check out the triggers on the RS drum machine that Dman scored for
ya. First, see if they can be cleaned up. Then see about external
triggering and adding a line out. Then look at PIC controller with
LCD/keyboard interface for programming (store sequences in EPROM?).
Links between samples (ie. fills?)? External variable osc for
variable timing (555)?
-
Blob piano
The blob piano has some great touch/contact points and can sound pretty
amazing when triggered fast. Photocell? Variable speed trigger. Don't
need to do too much with this.
-
Casio keyBored
Add line-out for sure. Maybe look for simple warble/delay. Keep this
one intact for the most part, use as a slow builder project.
-
Car mp3 player
Yeah, yeah, I know....but it would be nice! Big HD, nice console,
wireless ethernet for maintenance, boot from sandisk/flash card....
-
Speak and Spell
Standard bends
-
Speak and Math
Play with this one, do standard bends, but really explore and try
and get some insanity from this!
Wish list
The following are material items that would add to my capitalist
feelings of consumer completeness. Feel free to send one/all to me
at any time. Your cooperation is appreciated.
